The Sumter County Record Journal (SCRJ) publishes awards, weddings, engagements, anniversaries, 100th birthdays, family reunions with five generations, obituaries and birth announcements for people living in or past members of Sumter County for Free. SCRJ is not responsible for photos left at the SCRJ office. Please, e-mail us photos and stories to [email protected] or bring them to the SCRJ office at 210 S. Washington St. in Livingston.

Letters to the Editor: email Letters to the Editor to [email protected]. Be sure to include your name, hometown and contact information (we will not publish contact information unless you ask us to). We will not publish anonymous letters to the editor. All letters to the editor have reviewed before being ran and are at our discretion to run or not.
Engagements/Weddings: should be submitted four to six weeks in advance of the date so that you can proof it before it runs and because of space constraints. DEADLINE FOR THESE IS FRIDAY BEFORE 4 P.M. Photos may NOT be printed out on regular copy paper, but only on photo paper or e-mailed. When e-mailing a photo please send the original high resolution .jpg file and do not attempt to edit the photo in any way. We can not accept photos pulled/downloaded/ copied from social media. The first announcement is free unless there is an invitation inside the annoucement or if you have to have color. Any form of invitation in the announcement or otherwise will be charged as a display advertisement. If you must have color there is a $65.00 fee. You can pay for the color photo online at www.recordjournal.net/Advertise or send a check or money order to SCRJ, PO Box B, Livingston, AL 35470. We try to get our engagement and wedding announcements in color if we have space otherwise. Click on weddingannouncement then email the write up and photo to [email protected]. (Make sure to click file on your web browser and save the .pdf to your computer.) WE WILL NOT RUN THE ANNOUNCEMENT UNTIL IT IS PROOFED.
Obits: ARE FREE and MUST come from the Mortuary, probate judge or company taking care of arrangements. Additional information will have to be charged. No Exceptions! Please email them to [email protected] or fax them to 205-652-4466. Cards of Thanks, personal family messages and photos must be paid for before they can run. Photos are $15.00 for each run with the obituary.
Graduations: These are normally submitted by the school or military institution, but if you choose to submit it yourself, please include your name, photo (optional), school, degree, hometown in Sumter County, close family (parents, grandparents including deceased, siblings) and what you plan to do with your degree (optional). Personal messages, thank you’s, congratulations and quotations will be charged for as an advertisement. Please email your story and photo to [email protected].
Anniversaries: 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th year anniversary’s with a photo and write up are free. There is a charge for personal messages included with these. Other anniversary years are not free and will be charged as a advertisement.
Church/Community Announcements: are free as long as there are no personal messages and the event is not being charged for (love offerings do not count). If it’s a charity we need your 501c. number and to see the copy. Please keep the announcement to one paragraph with who is presenting the event, what the event is, date, time, where it will be held and contact information. Events only. Book signings are not free, because a product is being sold.
90 & 100th + Birthdays: Unless the birthday is announced in a social column, we charge for it to be in the paper as an advertisement. The exception: If the celebrant is 100 years old or older. You may send a photo to [email protected] with a short write up or drop one off at the SCRJ office in Livingston. When e-mailing a photo, please send the original high resolution .jpg file and do not attempt to edit the photo in any way. Births: Are free and you may send a photo to [email protected] with a short write up or drop one off at the SCRJ office in Livingston. Please include the height (length), weight, time of birth and family members including mom, dad, grand parents and great grandparents if you prefer. Many of our forms on our website at the top of the page. They are in .pdf format. Five Generation Family Reunions: Submit one photo of the entire family along with a list of the family members in the photo from left to right, front row to back row of each family member. Please remember if you include a write up DO NOT place any personal messages or mentions of businesses in your story.
