Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Bernice Stallings; brothers- in-law and sisters-in-law Edsil Logan (brother), D. W. and Earline (sister) Ross, Louis “Red,” Bessie (sister) Simpson.
Ed was a devoted worker and learned the value of hard work growing up on a farm with crops and animals.  He worked for the Frisco railroad and Gulf States paper mill early in his career. He made a job change so he could coach his 4 sons in sports. We have many cherished memories of him as coach and of our parents coaching and cheering from the stands.  We heard many shouts of “it’s rally time”. Ed spent 27 years as director of utilities and public works for the City of York Alabama and developed many lifelong friends during that time.  Ed learned and saw, as modeled from his father and mother, that God created equality and that everyone should be treated the way we would want to be treated.  As a parent, he instilled this standard in his sons and modeled Christ-like love of others.  Ed was nicknamed “Mr. Peacemaker” as many times in his various leadership roles he had to step in and help calm a situation.  He also modeled “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He lived a full life and was active up until going into the hospital.  He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, peace-making and countless wonderful memories that will be treasured. His love for the outdoors was exceeded by a few things: his Lord, his wife, his family and his friends. His Lord came first   Daily he and mom opened God’s word and that foundation on Christ helped model how to build an amazing marriage.  His faith was tested when faced with a deadly battle with leukemia in 1997. He confidently told his family that he had tied a strong knot and would faithfully hold on tight, and his Heavenly Father would either pull him through or pull him Home.  With that same faith he lived a bold, courageous and loving life and never let go of the rope. God finally pulled him Home.   He was an avid turkey hunter and killed his last turkey a month ago.  He loved to golf with his friends and with family. His famous saying after one of us would make a bad shot, “hit you another one” will warm our hearts for years to come.  He played golf on New Year’s Day 2024 and made an amazing birdie putt to kick off the new year.  Ed had a warm, friendly, and kind nature and will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched. He made a difference in this world and in many lives.
Ed and his wife were faithful members of Gideon’s International for over 30 years. He held several leadership roles and has distributed bibles to students on campuses across Alabama. He modeled that retirement doesn’t mean doing nothing or only selfish things. At 89 he was still the church coordinator and was scheduling speakers or himself speaking to share the Gideon message and to raise funds to put God’s Word in the hands of many.  He loved his Gideon family and was honored to be a Gideon. We believe there will be people in heaven because of his faithful life.
Ed was a lifelong member of the Church of God (Holiness), Cuba, Ala. He faithfully served as deacon, chairman of the board, board member, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.  Ed served many years as a board member of the Church of God (Holiness) Southern Annual Camp Meeting.  Known as “Mr. Campmeeting, ” he volunteered countless hours to make sure the grounds and infrastructure were ready.
Pallbearers include Matthew Stallings, Steven Stallings, Garrett Stallings, John Stallings IV, Kenneth Tucker, Ryan Lea, Chad Taylor, and Michael Summers. Honorary Pallbearers include Johnny Matlock, Ernie Truelove, Frank Vaughan, Paul Watkins, Skip Holder, Todd Bryan, and David Ross. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Church of God (Holiness), Cuba, AL, or the Gideons International.
The family would like to express appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff members of Anderson Regional Hospital.  You went above and beyond in providing care, kindness and love to “Mr. John and Mrs. Clara.” The most professional and compassionate care was shown to them. Thank you and may God bless each of you.
