Funeral services for Johnny O. Brooks were held Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church, Yantley, with Rev. Jasper Irby, officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Johnny Orleando Brooks departed this life on April 13, 2026. He was born on April 15, 1975, to the late Claretha Turner and Johnny Lewis Brooks. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined Mt. Mariah Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grand-mother, Alice Ruth Ruffin; grandfather, Marline Traylor; three aunts, Annie N. Ruffin, Hettie M. Ruffin and Annie B. Ruffin; and two uncles, Hugh Blanks Ruffin and Henry Ruffin. He leaves to cherish his precious memories; two daughters, Jocelyn Brooks and J’ohnee Brooks; two sons, Johnny Brooks Jr. and J’onn Brooks; one sister, Loretha Ruffin; like a sister, Debbie Dixon; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Travis Bernard McGrew
Memorial graveside service was held for Travis Bernard McGrew on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Kaiser Hill Cemetery, 6115 Melvin Road, Gilbertown, with Rev. Cleo McGrew, Sr., Officiating. Travis Bernard McGrew was born on December 4, 1964, to the late William Henry McGrew and Ada Crosby McGrew, who preceded him in death. He departed this life on April 17, 2026, at his home in the Shady Grove Community in Silas.
He joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at a young age, where he remained a member until his death. After graduating from Southern Choctaw High School, Silas, he decided to join the U.S. Army National Guard. He was employed with the Alabama Department of Transportation. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: one devoted son: Travis Bernard (Brandy) McGrew, Jr. of Mobile; two loving and devoted daughters: LaChanda (Darrayl) Grove of Mobile, Chrystal (Dereyon) Lewis of Houston, Texas; three devoted and loving grandchildren, whom he adored: Gracelynn, Brandy, and Ivy; nine devoted and loving sisters and brothers: Josephine (Henry) Martin of Louisville, Kentucky; Shirley (John B.) Foster of Atlanta, Ga.; Lillie V. Stanford of Huntsville; Sylvester (Joyce) McGrew of Silas, (Shady Grove); Shenetta (Henry B.) Mitchell of Silas, Alabama (Flatwood); Henry (Addie) McGrew of Quitman, Miss. Robert Sherman Pearson, of Emelle, Alabama, passed away on April 24, 2026, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was born on March 7, 1946, to Mr. Cecil Pearson and Mrs. Opal (Pearson) Watson. He attended Greene County High School and Shelton State Community College before serving nine years in the National Guard. On October 21, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Sue Stephens. A man of faith and service, he was a devoted deacon of Friendship Baptist Church in Boligee, and found purpose in caring for Bethsalem Cemetery, honoring the memory of his loved ones and the community he cherished. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Sue Pearson; his father, Cecil Pearson; his mother and stepfather, Opal and Noel Watson; and his siblings, Cecil Pearson, Joyce Green, Joan Rogers, Steve Pearson, Richard Pearson, Lucy McDuff and Kim Drake. He is survived by his brother, Buddy Pearson; his sister, Cheryl Hill (Jimmy); his sons, Jason Pearson (Ashley), Eric Pearson (Leah), and Adam Pearson (Jennifer); his daughters, Amanda McRae (Colin) and Leah Banks (Harris); and his grandchildren, Colby Pearson (Peyton), Shawn Westbrook, Chase Qualls, Madeline Pearson, Marianna Pearson, Libby Kate Plowman, Lauren Plowman, Sam Henry Pearson, Mae Pearson, George McRae, and Montana McRae. Alice Virginia Osborne Taylor
Funeral service for Alice Taylor was held Friday, April 24, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Coffeeville High School, Coffeeville. Alice Virginia Osborne Taylor was born on September 25, 1944, to the late T. B. and Alice Jackson Osborne. She entered eternal rest on April 17, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Robert Osborne, Hattie Cunningham, Richard Osborne, and Nell Marie Jordan. Mrs. Alice Taylor confessed holiness and ran for Jesus a long time. She joined Coffeeville Church of God in Christ where she served in many areas. She held the position of Sunday School Superintendent, where she served faithfully until her health declined. Her faith was unwavering. She was a pillar in her community; supporting others through her food bank giveaway and community Thanksgiving dinner distribution, which included delivery to the sick and shut in. Her Thanksgiving giveaway was special and meant so much to so many. She was an amazing seamstress, talented cook and cake baker. She attended Clark County Training School Class of 1962. She was married to Mr. Young Thomas Taylor, Jr. (our recently departed father) for 53 years. She leaves to cherish her memories: eight children, Cornelius (Tonya) Osborne, Gwinnette (Ray) Dixon, John (Lula) Osborne, Renee Mitchell, Selena Hill, Martina Taylor, Viryonka (Andre) Howell and Roderick Taylor; five siblings, Willie B. Osborne, Eddie Lee (Mamie) Osborne, Charles (Cassandra) Osborne, and Shirley (Horrance) Scruggs; twenty-one grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
