A graveside celebration of life for Brother James Henry Bell of Emelle, who passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, was 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Brown Cemetery, Epes. Sister Sharnika Bell, his granddaughter, gave words of comfort. Public viewing and visitation was Friday, August 14 2026 at McInnis Mortuary, Livingston. McInnis Mortuary of Livingston entrusted with all arrangements. The McInnis family along with the management and staff of McInnis Mortuary extend heartfelt and sincere sympathy to the entire bereaved Bell family.
Martha P. Hill
Funeral service for Sis. Martha P. Hill was held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Silas. She passed away on August 4, 2026! Rev. Sherrod Coleman officiated. Rev. Melvin Newell, Jr., Pastor.Interment, Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Silas. Sis. Martha Hill was born on July 28, 1954, in Butler, to L. C. Philon and Lela Gilmore. She joined Shady Grove Baptist Church at an early and attended for many years.She was a faithful and dedicated woman of God. As an usher, she greeted everyone with a beautiful smile, making them feel welcomed as they entered the house of the Lord for worship.She was the treasurer for the Senior Mission Department, and she was also a member of the Hospitality Committee. She loved praising God and thanking God for all the blessings he had given her, each day of her life. Martha was married to Floyd Moore Jr. and from this union they raised two beautiful daughters, Tyra C. Moore-McGee and Sanethra C. Moore-Butler. Martha later married Norris Hill on March 28, 2010. She had a big heart and a special love for people. She would help anyone by ensuring that they had food or whatever was needed. Martha had a passion for sewing; she worked as a seamstress for many years. She took pride in whatever she did; she was a great homemaker, and she did it with pride. Most of all, she loved God, and she served as an usher, greeting people with a smile, helping wherever needed. She attended church until her health failed. Martha loved her husband and enjoyed their fishing trips and working in the yard together. She loved her azalea flowers; she had many hobbies and enjoyed all of them with her husband. Martha always spoke about her children and grandchildren with a smile; she was very proud of her family. Martha was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. L. C. Philon and Mrs. Lela Philon; one brother-in-law: Willie Wimberly. She leaves to cherries her memories: husband, Mr. Norris Hill Silas; five amazing, wonderful daughters, Tyra M. McGee (Jermaine), Sanethra C. Moore Butler (Robert) of Va., Linda Patterson (Wayne), Stephanie Randolph (Bernard), and Lisa Hill; special loving sister: Geraldine Wimberly, Lisman; several amazing awesome grandchildren: Xavier and Orion McGee, Jade (Isiah Conway) Mason Butler, Jordan Butler, Darius Butler, all of Va.; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, that loved her very much; a special cousin, Nell. Thomas Lee Nicholson
Funeral service forThomas Lee Nicholson, 72, of Toxey, was held Friday, August 14, 2026, at noon at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Toxey. Internment followed at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Toxey. Thomas “Pookie” Nicholson was born April 7, 1954, to the late Bennie Thornton, Sr. and Ruthie Mae Jones. He departed this life on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Thornton and Ruthie Mae Jones; brothers,Bill Thornton, Bennie Thornton, Jr., and Larry Thornton; and a grandson, Perryea Williams. Thomas never met a stranger and was a big talker. He loved watching old Westerns and stayed watching Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Thomas leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Maxie Nicholson; six daughters, L’Juanna Napier, Takaisha Napier, Tosha Napier (Roy) Bush, Tiffani (David) Elkourie, Danyel Williams, Nicole Williams; two sisters, Betty Simmons, Katina (Joe) Howell; brother, Elgin Thornton; thirteen grandchildren, Tamrin (Thomas), Kedric, Tia, Alexis, Devontia, Dwight, III, Cordarius, De’Andre, Zacaria, David, Perryeashe, Amarye, Zacharia; four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. William Albert Rogers
William Albert Rogers passed away peacefully in his home in Greensboro, on August 15, 2026, just one day shy of his 90th birthday. Services will be Thursday, August 20, 2026, 2 p.m. at Greensboro Baptist Church with the Brother Dee McGuire officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Albert, or “Daddy Bert,” as most knew him, was born on August 16, 1936, in Epes, to the late John Henry, Sr. and Veva William Rogers. He had an older brother, John Henry Rogers, Jr. and a younger sister, Mary Jane Robinson, both who precede him in death. He married the love of his life, Cynthia Matlock Rogers on May 15, 1958, and together they had three children: Charles “Chuck” Henry Rogers (d. 1986), Caprice Dodd Colburn, and Cassandra Elaine Muñoz (Marcelo). Daddy Bert joined the Army National Guard in 1954 and retired after 41 years of service. He served through many ranks and retired as First Sergeant. He worked for Black Warrior Electric for 35 years, starting as a lineman and diligently working his way up to Foreman over the Greensboro crew. He retired from Black Warrior in 1998. Daddy Bert was an active member of Greensboro Baptist Church for over fifty years and served as a Senior Deacon for over forty. He and his wife served in the Church’s Children’s Ministry for forty years as preschool teacher and director. In his spare time, he enjoyed meticulously caring for his yard. Cutting grass on his John Deere was one of his favorite things to do. He did not allow others to ride his mower until his granddaughter, Melissa Canter Averette, earned the privilege (much to his family’s surprise!). He and Melissa shared a close relationship. He enjoyed building bird houses and squirrel feeders, and in general enjoyed watching God’s creatures in his backyard. His greatest joy in life was his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with and celebrating his children; grandchildren, Melissa (Thomas), Rodrigo Muñoz Dayaa (Joseph), Carrie Lee Canter, Andrea Muñoz Goode (Mark), Daniela Muñoz Wilson (Garrett), and Dante Muñoz Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Nicole Averette, Brantlee Noelle Averette, William Preston Averette, Liam Charles Muñoz Goode, and Jamarion Harris. He has faithfully prayed for them in all their endeavors. Pallbearers are Thomas Averette, Will Averette, Marcelo Muñoz, Dante Muñoz and David Sidoti. Honorary Pallbearers are Southern Care New Beacon Hospice of Demopolis, Mrs. Rita Portis his loving sitter.
